Picked up a 2005 CCLB v10 Lariat v10 with only 79k on it for 3500 bucks. But, its rusty.
I need to change the rusted out radius arm mount on passenger side. I can get the bracket from ford, but whats the best way to remove? On my 78 f100, I ground out the rivets and used an air hammer to install a lowering kit, so I'm thinking that's the best way. Anyone else do this repair?
Bracket is available from Ford, 365 list, 260 sell. Guy near me parting super duties said he never heard of this beacket rusting and will cut me off a frame section for 50 bucks.
I'll take some pics of the fix .
Got a bracket from a 200k florida truck, still has the paint on it. Amazing what difference climate makes. I drilled all 7 with a 1/4 then 1/2 bit through the rivet and just past the face of the frame. Used a cold chisel to break off head and a drift to drive out.....now, all that was on the frame section I bought and Im sure the laying on my back with rust falling in my eye will make the actual job a pita.
Tackled the bracket install on Sunday. Took about 3 hours with jacking up, removing stuck wheel, taking off radius arm, drilling, grinding, painting and reassembling. Not too bad of a job, and I'm not sure how this bracket got this bad, the drivers side is fine. I mean, the truck is rusty and needs a bed and rockers, but this metal is like 5/16 thick. This is a well used bracket not a new part. Im pretty sure the paint ford uses that comes off like a sheet traps so much moisture, once it breaks down, you're toast.
