Angry No Sound, sometimes

'94 F150, had AM/FM, no casette, no premium sound.

I just replaced my AM/FM radio with a working Kenwood CD player. CD player worked great when I took it out of my car. I used a wiring harness to install it in the truck.

When I turn on the truck or head unit, I get no sound. IF I unplug and reconnect the speaker harness with the head unit on, I'll have sound until I turn off the truck. Doesn't matter how long the truck is off, when I start it again, no sound.

I found a few old posts about using the power antenna wire to signal the amp, so I tried the wires that were left on the harness (4 of them) and no luck.

HELP!

Ok, better now. I ended up back at the stereo shop I bought the wiring harness from to price speakers. Consensus there was that it was probably a short in one of the speakers that was causing the stereo to cut output to all of them. Unplugging and reconnecting the speaker harness was probably resetting this safety feature. I ended up coming home with 2 sets of speakers, and it looks like the problem was in one of the front speakers. It worked great after replacing those, and even better after the rears were in.
HORAY!!

I got a pair of Kenwood KFC-1387s for the doors and a pair of Jensens behind the seat. Not premium speakers, but FAR better than what was there (even when the paper speakers worked!).

CAUTION: Driving without music may be hazardous to other drivers!
