A shocks question

We have a work truck that is a 1987 Ford F-250 4x4. I noticed that the right back shock is leaking. Now this truck is a work truck that is always towing or has a heavy load. Ride is not an issue and we have actually added an extra leaf to the springs just to give it a little extra height. Now my question is: would shocks from a 1979 Ford F-350 be able to work on this truck as long as they bolted right up? I am assuming they would but haven't really looked at them and just thought of this tonight. We bought them for the '79 but never put them on and don't need them. Or should I go out to our '89 F-250 parts truck and take those shocks off if they don't leak? I am assuming that these shocks aren't even doing much anyway. Any thoughts or input is appreciated.

No I haven't. It's just something I had thought of while I was at home. If they are the same length should they work? Do they also have to be the same width across? I will measure them tda and see. If worse comes to worse I will put one on from a parts truck that we have. Honestly, I don't think they are really doing a whole lot especially with the extra leaf in the back.

Matt, given your inteded use I would say if the shocks are the same length (or nearly so) both compressed and fully extended I can see no problems ~at all~ with using the ones off your F350.

. . of course, they will defintiely be valved differently and thus ride pretty stiff, but that seems to be a nonissue in this application.
