Have any of you had any experience in swapping out your front end? I'm seeing this on ebay and I'm super tempted. It's the full crossmember with suspension, steering and disc brakes off of 2011 Crown Vic.
If it works, it seems like it would save me a lot of money in the long run. Any thoughts or experience? Thanks! https://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-Ford-C...p/233433347984
Hey Spurredon,
Thanks for the links. (the first one in your reply didn't work) but that second one was really interesting!
I'll do some more digging here on the forum. The Ebay listing said that it was a "popular" item for the F100's. I feel like it's one of those things that may be too good to be true?
It is a popular mod for those so inclined. Many folks have done it. I guess it really gives a car feel. Personally, I drive an old truck cause I like old trucks! But hey, too each his own.
That's waaay to much money. I bought 2 of the IFS crossmembers 6 years ago I think I paid 350 or 450 each, not sure. and got all the hardware bolts, spacers ect. Shop around. Mine did not have the slotted rotors. One was out of a taxi and the other a cop car.
Yeah, I've started looking around now that I'm finding "how to's" and such around the internet. Seems like that guy wants ALL the money for that setup. I bet I could find one at a local junkyard for way less.
Thrifty, did yours fit / perform ok? Seems like there's a bit of welding to do and such from what I've seen, but for the most part, it's a pretty sweet little swap out.
Best thing I've ever done to my Truck!! I installed an '09 Crown Vic suspension about 2 years ago. That thing had been beating me up since 1977, when I bought it, & it got to where it wasn't much fun to drive. I was 68, 69 years old when I did it & it was a piece of cake!! I'd do it again today @ 71 without a second thought!! Have fun!
That's great to hear Bruman. We're definitely looking to make this thing a driver, so we want it to be a little more updated and comfortable, rather than a "tough" ride. We've got a couple of bobbers that we built for that.
That's a cool site! How have I never heard of it before?
There's a couple junks yards around us that I'll be checking out too. Looks like there are several Crown Vic's, Town Car's and Merc's available. Shouldn't have a problem finding a good setup.
Seems like there are several vids on YT of guys doing this swap as well.
Any good channels that you recommend?
