Hi all. Been about 10 years since I've been here. I gained interest on building a f100. Read quite abit of forums and how too's on here and wanted to show my take on the crown vic project. I work occasionally on it during my weekends and only about a hour or two during the week after work. I work out of town a good bit so I do what I can when I can in my garage out of my house.
The reason I choose this build is because I always like to be different when it comes to trucks. I looked for a C**** Apache for quite sometime and found nothing but rusted truck here in GA. I did not want to repair rust for six months. I then became interested in F100 talking to an old man at my work. I could not find one of these locally either. One day comming home from work I took a detour and sitting in the front yard of a 75 year old man was this 68 F100. He just put it out there in hopes to selling it. I was the first person to knock on his door. He hoped to build it but just said he did not have the time. We went for a ride and when he fired it up I knew I had to have it. He showed me how to drive the three on the tree and to power shift. After the 45 minute conversation we shook hands and he followed me home in it.
Current list:
Crown Vic Front End
Crown Vic Brake booster
Mazda Miata Clutch Master Cylinder
2JZGE engine NA-T
W58 transmission
I've met a few good people while working on this build and have made great connections on obtaining parts and gathering information. Looking forward to the people I meet and the conversations that will be had. Truck is currently awaiting for me to mock up the engine and fab up motor mounts.
That is a neat project! What made you decide to go with that Toyota engine? Are you doing anything different with the rear end? Gas tank going under the bed behind axle?

Very cool project!
Thank you. the motor choice was a decision between a diesel or a turbo gasoline motor. I wanted to do the Cummins 4Bt but they are scarce and I figured I'm limited on the amount of fun with them. 6bt was an option but just too heavy. I wanted reliability, fun, and something totally different. I said why not a Japanese motor. I plan on putting in a S550 Mustang rear IRS 18+ models. Temporarily ill use factory behind the seat fuel tank then swap a fuel cell.

Wow, that is awesome. I did some reading on that motor and talked to my buddy about it (while trolling the junkyard for a top cover for my NP435...found several...) and what an awesome motor! I love stuff like this!
So many peeps think the only way you can make power is with a big block and 4bbl...bulloney....
Looking forward to seeing more on your progress! Patina or finished paint?

My local yard has a few older fordtrucks. In my area trucks are a big thing here. So even the junkyard knows that and they sell a good amount of parts. And just one more reason I choose an inline six. When I Bring it to shows I want people to be blown away by it. Pop open the hood and them not be sure what to look at first, Engine, Big Turbo and whatever else may be in there. I have had them all from fords and gm with big blocks. Just love the way older trucks look and feel but want a unique set up to enjoy. Oh and I'm a sucker for Patina.
Haven't done a whole lot. Motor is sitting on the Crossmember in this picture. Its now chalked up awaiting motor mounts. Just a little test work. Still working on it. Steering is hooked up. I think the dampner is worn out. And the steering wheel shaft slides in and out about a 2 inches now. Not sure what's going on there yet. Also a friend installed a panel to run my 220 now. Busiest time of the year for work. Truck will see little attention for the next few months.
Awesome truck. I have the exact same truck in meadowlark yellow. Finishing up the 240 so I can get it back on the road. Will be keeping it pretty much stock other than some upgrades on the 240. Where abouts in GA? I may be interested in the 240 if you're looking to part with it.
