This is the part I used. 3" inlet and outlet. 22" case length. Summit shows this as currently being $162 USD currently. Price has gone up since I bought mine, but I would not hesitate to spend that money again to fix that droning issue.
DroneMaster mufflers don't have ANY sound dampening material inside, they are just empty resonant chambers which actually amplify noise. I made a Maganflow straight through copy with the body of 50 series, drilled "a million" holes in a piece of 3" pipe, wrapped it with rockwool and stuffed it in body of the DroneMaster, and guess what... it was a LOT quieter.
On my 5 0 I now have a 2.5 inch pipe 45 degree dumped in front of the right rear with no muffler and it has 95 percent less drone than the flowmaster that was on my old blazer.
Humanity has been forcing air through a tube to create sound for about 30 seconds later than the first beating of objects to create sound.
And naturally there will be those who like one & hate the other just "because". And for some it will be because of "taste".
When I bought my Fox in '95, I shortly there after purchased a Flowmaster cat-back set up. Been there ever since. Bothers me not in the least at any RPM.
I think one muffler has finally eaten a 5 mm hole in the rear case of one which adds a bit more "character" when rapped on or romped on.
I bought the Magnaflow on my truck because it was 3-chamber, no packing, case size, SS & price. (none of which was all available in Flowmaster at the time)
Always had a bit of " log-truck blatt" till I put the over the axle tail-pipe.
I am pretty certain any vehicle with modified engine & exhaust tract with any manufacturer's parts will exhibit characteristics that some group of individuals & ears will find either objectionable or pleasing.
Any thing that has a constant pattern of explosions will find a resonance pattern that SOMEBODY is going be bothered by.
My 2 cents. Please carry on with striking of dead equine...
My door panels and eyeballs were rattling for the 45 minutes it took to get to the junkyard.
I don’t have overdrive either so it stays at 3k on the highway.
Can’t hear the radio or have a spoken conversation in the cab is where I draw the line, for a vehicle that is primarily used for work and transportation.
