This morning I was starting to plug the vac hoses and noticed the front rubber lower intake gasket is not seated properly. You can see a little oil seepage to the left of the distributor hole. This may be where my high idle was coming from also. I'm ready to just loosen the lower bolts and gently raise the front to get the gasket back in place. Can I do that without draining coolant etc?. It should only take 1/8" of lifting in the front to do this but all bolts will need to be loosened and then torqued. There is sealant on each side of the rubber front and back where they meet the intake gaskets. They shouldn't be disturbed doing this. I guess having to drain coolant is my main concern. Unless there is something else. Sandy

If you want to try saving what you have, I would drain the coolant so you don't get coolant in where it ought not be. or just pull it all and start fresh. It will only cost you a gasket kit.

OK, I will drain the coolant and order a new gasket kit. Should go a lot easier this time. Do you think this could have cause my high idle. I would think so.

Honestly, I don't know. It is exposing the lifter valley, which I don't think would act like a vacuum leak... but if the intake isn't sitting quite right maybe one or more of the intake ports aren't quite sealed.

Well guess we'll see after it's replaced. The port gaskets have stud holes that fit over two studs on each side of the block. I don't see how they could move. Fel-Pro. In addition to the rtv on the ends of the front and back rubber gaskets, I will put a very light coat on the bottom to prevent it from slipping. They have little tabs on the rrubber that fit in small holes in the block but a little rtv won't hurt. Going to pay close attention to the vac lines also. Thanks for the help so far.👍 Sandy
