Truck is running the same as normal, but yesterday, the fuel guage read lower then it was the previous day when i parked it, it then started twitching back and forth eradicaly. Since it read "low" i thought i would top it off so that the short highway trip would be fine on gas. Filled up the tank and the gas guage no longer moves at all, stoped at 1/4. Havent pulled codes, no light. Is pulling the codes the palce to start? Or is there something else that i should be looking at, doing? Thanks
sounds like either the sending unit or the float is bad. either way you will need to drop the tank and replace this stuff. no since this is a pretty easy job but time consuming. i suggest you call ford and get a complete new fuel pump with sender and float. i did this and spent about $120, this way you wont have to get back in there for as long as you own the rig
thank you very much, i was hoping that this was not the case. Last night i went threw all of the wiring diagrams, and it looks like all the gauges are off of one wiring system and fuse. so that pretty much ruled something easy out.
is there any thing else that i should look at replace while i have the tank droped?
ill look into the job
thanks

Reason: additions
some people have cut an access panel into the rear floor so they didnt have to drop the tank. try a search it should come up. if you do drop the tank have a friend and make sure there is little fuel left in the tank. makes it much easier. and hit the bolts with pb blaster or wd 40 and let soak overnight
i think that were going to test a couple of circuits to find the problem exactly, then if we have to cut a hole through the back floor. After reading other threads, it sounds like ill be able to prep one evening and complete the job on saturday. Dropping the tank seems like it is one of those things that will need an entire weekend, if not more.
ah but the famed FORD rust, my truck was once used to pull race cars back and forth from canada. i just paid, reluctantly, around 550$ to have my left ball joint replaced because all of the old pieces crumbled when the assembly was taken apart. ill check it out tho before we start to do any cutting. thanks for the quick reply of the time frame involved.
