V-10 Fuel System Problems
I have a 2001 Excursion with the mighty V-10 and 46,000 miles. About a week ago i started having acceleration problems. When traveling down the road it would bog out when i hit the gas. If i put it in neutral, turned off the key, turned it back on and continued on my merry way it would work fine for another 5 to 10 miles then would do it again.
I had a mechanic buddy replace the fuel filter, thinking that was the problem, but no dice.
Does anyone have a suggestion before the wif gets in the family truckster and this happens to her. I don't think i can take another *** chewin.
Thanks for any suggestions
I've had filters clog on me, and your turning it off & restarting procedure sounds like the typical short-term solution. When you turn it off, that allows the dirt particles that were being sucked/pushed against the filter element to fall via gravity. And after driving a bit more later, the fuel in the filter churns up those particles again, clogging the filter.
In fact, if you've already replaced the filter on this one tank of gas, it may have become contaminated (from a bad tank of gas), and might need replacing once again.
Like I said, that's my best guess. Anyone else have other suggestions?

Anyone else with a few suggestions?
My "bad gas" situations have always involved (believe this or not) Exxon fuel. I've had the worst luck with their stuff, and have avoided it like the plague. And more odd? The el-cheapo gas stations around here have never given me any problems.
And the worst fuel I've ever encountered was during my trips to CA. That reformulated junk is just that junk. Those left-coasters are sold on it though, because of the claims it pollutes about 20% less than other fuels. But my mileage dropped dramatically from using it, and I ended up burning almost twice as much fuel as normal. (That's right! My vehicle went from 30MPG to a little over 16MPG while in CA! Returned to normal upon leaving CA.)
Let's see now .... If I'm burning twice as much gas, but it pollutes 20% less .... (calculating here) .... I've increased my pollutants only what? 60%? I just love false economies.
I know that bad gas can cause some of these problems, but i can't help to think that it may be computer related. I am no mechanic in any way, shape, or form, but i do know that if there is a computer glitch, one of the ways to reset the computer is to turn the truck off, and then on again.
The only thing that makes me think that it may be this or something else is because this has happened on the Interstate going 70 mph. I shut it off while still rolling along, and then restarted and everything was fine again. I couldn't imagine that the 3 seconds the thing was off would allow the particles to sink.
Anyway, i am having the filter removed and blown out as we speak. So hopefully something shows up in the filter which would solve this problem.
