gears..again

ok after you change gears you need to take it easy on them to break them in, well if or when i do change my gears it'll be a weekened swap and then monday through thursday it's a 50 mile one way trip to my school all highway at 60-70 mph(i like 60 cause i get 19mpg there) but would this cause too much heat in my rearend? but the 500 mile break in period would be over in under a week. just don't want to change my gears and then have my rearend glowing red when i get to school. thanks in advance

I have never had t break in rearend gears. Put them in Sat. morning, go racing Sat night. They do create a wear pattern, but it isn't something like a camshaft or cylinderwalls that must be broken in.
There should be no problem in putting them in and heading off to school.

Just a not, they build up more heat in stop and go traffic, than in steady interstate driving.

ok cool, it'll be more of a friday morning friday night thing though i'm outta school on fridays so that's when i was planing on doing it, or maybe i could do it at school in my powertrains class... anyways how can i tell what rear end i have? my 89 had an 8.8 and my 02 is not an 8.8. but the only other gear sets i've seen on summit is for the 7.5 and the 9in. where could i get gears for it? also it'll be teh first rear that i do so i hope i don't screw it up.

Look at the tag. Is it a 4x4? It is probably a 9.75 semi-floating rearend. Well, I guess it's not a 4x4 or you would have to do the front too.
Tow package? May still be a 9.75
Check the tag and see if it has a 975 on it somewhere. It may or may not have a dot in the number.
