Cool Lost everything, no power. HELP!!

Hello. I have been searching for an answer to my problem and all are helpful but none work for me. I have a 1996 F150 with a 302 V8. I went to start it the other day and it wouldn't start. So I let of the key and turned it again and something made a popping sound and everything went out. No power whatsoever. No lights, no radio, no relays clicking, no door chime, nothing at all. When I turned the key the second time, right before it made the popping fuse type sound, it first made that hideous sound like it was already started. But the truck wasn't started or running. The starter is brand new, and we checked every fuse in both fuse boxes. We checked the power and have 12.5 volts all the way to the power distribution block and fuse box. I can't figure this out. I need major help. Thanks for your time.

Check you starter solenoid, left fender by the battery, do a resistance test across the small terminals, you will probably get OL (Open Lead), if so replace it, the poping sound is the solenoid trying to close to energize the starter, double check all of you grounds, almost sounds like you have a loose cable or terminal.

we did what you said, and it ended up being...the negative battery wire just after the terminal had melted. I replaced both positive and negative and, of course had power...then I couldn't get the truck to start, because the melting of the wire shorted out the starter solenoid on the starter. Replaced the starter, and now am driving the truck. Thanks so much for your help and fast reply.
