Have a pinion bearing whining so I'm taking it in to have it rebuilt. Decided to have them do a Eaton Detroit Trutrac rather than rebuild the clutches for the limited slip. Anybody done this and what's your experience?
Sounds like a good plan, I would have them check the entire rear drive-line (axle & drive shaft). For axle lube I prefer the Amsoil SEVERE GEAR 75W-140. I don't know where you are planning to take it, but I would recommend Young's Gear. Good Luck , Russ

Yep. Taking it to Young’s Friday. Eaton says not to use synthetic with the Truetrac? I have AMSOIL 75w-140 in there now.

I've got almost 200K on my Truetrac and it's been flawless. Use the recommended lube in the TT and save your hard earned $$$ for something else. Eaton has a reason for what they recommend and why. Email them if you have questions.

So no concern about the rest of the bearings and gears being that Ford recommends full synthetic in the differential? What interval should I be changing the diff fluid with the non synthetic and the TT in there?
This is directly from the Eaton website application page,
Detroit Truetrac A quality petroleum GL5 rated (mineral) based oil is recommended. Synthetic oils may also be used if desired per axle manufacturer’s recommendations. Friction modifiers should not be used however, as they will decrease overall performance (reduce differential bias).
