Power steering AC compressor bracket fix?

I posted this in the 73-79 Forum, but also didn't find any threads to add it to in this one.

Let me know what you think.

Okay I have mocked up (don't laugh) a possible mounting bracket for a Sanden compressor while not changing anything with the power steering.

It will mount behind the power steering pump bracket, using the 2 existing studs plus 2 bolts where the unused bolt holes are. I am thinking of making it in 2 pieces that bolt together for fitment and then welding the 2 together.

Does anyone see any potential problems with this before I put any more work into it?

I know Vintage is about to release a kit for the 300 with power steering, so I'll wait to see how much their kit runs. From what I have researched both Vintage and Nostalgic have kits for the V8's running about 1300 or so.

The styrofoam cube is my dummy compressor.

The 83 to 86 pick ups use that compressor and the pump you have in the pictures.
The 80s vans use the GM type PS pump and the compressor you want to run.
The 80 to 82 pick ups use a York compressor and you can get an adapter to mount the compressor you want to the York mounts.
I just got my AC working on my 81 F100 with the GM type PS pump.

I was told my setup is from a van because of the PS pump type.

I had to make new "bat wings" as I lost 1.
They bolt to the compressor and them to the bracket.

I have tried to look for those types. It just seems unlikely of finding all the parts associated with those types of bracket systems.

6 pieces plus the nuts and bolts.

1 main piece plus finding the bracket for the pump and then converting to a Sanden mount.

I really can't count how many pieces would be needed with this one.

I've searched and haven't found many of these parts available. Hopefully Vintage comes out with a solution or I can fab something up for a reasonable cost.

It looks like you found the pictures from Gary's site.
If so most of them were put there for me when I was looking for brackets.
I was lucky that a member over in the 80 - 86 area from AZ found the brackets for me as we have nothing around here.
He also came up with a water pump pulley that is used with the AC.
As I said if you can find a set for a York compressor then just get the adaptor for the compressor.

I have the vintage air AC and PS brackets. The AC bracket comes with a new harmonic damper, the PS bracket comes with a GM type II pump. It all fits quite nicely, about $500 for both. It's a bit costly, but considering what my time and frustration is worth, I think it was worth it.

Vintage has come out in the last week with kits specific to our trucks (73-79 both V8 and I6). Over 1500 for the kit plus you have to pony up for the GM pump. My understanding is that the brackets are included.

So close to 2K for a kit.

If I can fab up this bracket, I think I can piece together a kit for a little over 1K. I found a Sanden compressor already mounted on a York to Sanden adapter for about 250.00

Other parts I'm looking at are from Nostalgic.

Only problem is my son says he really doesn't want AC. I think that may change as he gets a little older.
