I need help with a Sync 3 update. My 2015 originally came with the Sync 2 system, I swapped it out with a Sync 3 system from Infotainment.com and I want to update the software. However the OTA update doesn't work so I need to go the USB route but I can't seem to find the file online. If I go the Ford recommended route via ford.owner.com the only option is to the look up the updates via my VIN which only shows a Sync2 update. Obviously that's not useful for my Sync 3 system. Anyone got any recommendations on how to accomplish an update?
Updates to your SYNC3 system can be done by using a USB flash drive. Follow these steps to update SYNC3 via USB.
On your personal computer, log into your Ford Owner account at Owner.Ford.com. If you have not logged in before, you will need to register.
Click on “SYNC & Vehicle Features” at the top of the page.
Then click “Check for Software Update.”
Scroll down to view any available updates for your vehicle.
Click “Download SYNC Update.”
Accept the licensing agreement and download the file onto your computer.
Plug the empty USB drive into your computer. It is important to be sure the USB drive is not password protected and can hold at least 32 GB of data.
Locate the file on your computer and unzip the file.
Save the file to your USB drive.
Make sure the ignition switch in your Ford vehicle is set to “On” and the vehicle is in park.
Plug the drive containing the update into the vehicle’s USB port.
Installation of the update will automatically begin.
Take the USB drive back to your computer to confirm the update.
Log into your owner account and click “Confirm Update.”
Insert the USB into the computer and follow the prompts.
I'm not sure where to find what your referencing. At the top of the page for me is Owner home, Service, Support, & FordPass.
If I go to support and click on the Sync Software updates it asks for my VIN, which is tied to a Sync 2 system. I don't have an option to download the latest Sync 3 update.
The Ford web site will only offer what they think can run on your 2015. You need to find someone with a newer vehicle that accepts SYNC3 so that they can do the download for you.
Alternatively, there might be a copy somewhere on the interwebs?

I think 4DTech, which also offers the SYNC 3 upgrade that you purchased, has the files you need but I’m not sure if they’ll sell them to you.
It wouldn’t hurt to call them and ask.
You can also do a search online for the files.
I’m sure someone has them but again, they might charge you.
If you're still looking for the latest sync3 update I am downloading the file for myself. Pm me and we can work out how to get you the file to download.
