While I was backtracking some superfluous wiring under the EX I spotted that one of the leaf spring bolts appears to have either sheered or simply backed out and bent. It was a bit of surprise for sure. The EX has an 8" lift so it rides worse then the standard EX. Being that I am going to have to have someone get under the EX to change out the bolt, I was thinking about adding Sulastic Shackles while they are there. I have read that using Sulastic Shackles can mellow out the ride but all of the comments I have read about the Suslatic Shackles have been from P-truck owners whereby the ride is improved with an empty bed. Being that the EX is heavier in the *** then an F series truck, I wonder how much improvement the Sulastic Shackles will provide. Does anyone have any experience?
rear leafspring bolt another view of the leaf spring bolt bent and backing out
That looks the the one that's hard to get out because of the AC lines on the pass side. I think that spring has got to come off for new bushings anyway.
I have browsed at the sulastic shackles before. If my recollection is correct, they offer them for the superduty but not the Excursion. I think this is because the Excursion has a body mount in the way of the shackle. Hopefully I am mistaken on this, as it was awhile ago. Please report back if they will work on our Ex's. I think they did offer a front shackle for the Excursions, for whatever that is worth.
My X has an 8" lift and I do use the vehicle at Hollister Hills, Pismo, and in the mountains. I communicated with someone at Sulastic about my set up and use and they responded that they DO have shackles that fit front and rear. Additionally they were confident that the product will outlast the 3 year warranty period even with the lift and heavy use. I will probably start with the rear shackles and see what kind of improvement I experience before deciding to about the front shackles. I am still not convinced that the shackles are not the latest snake oil on the market.
