I tried searching the forum for more information on this but came up very short. Likely due to the crappy search here. I'm sure this topic has been beat to death. I'm looking to add the fuel vapor separator setup to an older dentside truck to alleviate vapor lock issues and fuel vapor pushing the float needle open and flooding the engine on hot starts. @Brnfree posted this pic in one thread I was able to find of the setup I'm talking about. I am debating, because the separators are hard to come by and expensive for what they are. I know they make fuel filters with a vapor port on them, but looking for something more compact and reduce the number of rubber hose fittings; I also haven't been able to determine if they have a metering orifice built in, as I'm needing to add the return lines to the tanks.
Is the vapor separator specially constructed or is it just a Tee with an orifice in one port? I'm thinking I could make the same thing out of a Tee block and some fittings and making an orifice for the top port. But I'm worried it's not that simple. Any thoughts?
It's that simple. You will have to experiment with the orifice size, but that is all there is to it. The hardest part will be getting the return line plumbed back into the fuel tank.
The one on my truck has a screen on the inside of it, I would say your best bet is to goto a junkyard. Just make sure to clean it out with either acetone or carb cleaner before you install it
