V10 Ping???

V10 Ping???
My 02 V10 with 18,000 miles has just developed a ping in the last month. I notice it mostly just cruising on interstate roads on slight inclines at 70-75 mph. when in OD (Auto Trans.) It does not matter if I am towing or not. I have tried different gasoline brands and stations (87 Octane). I am wondering if I disconnect the battery will the computer reset and then re-adjust the timing to get rid of the ping??
Any ideas , will be appreiciated.

Dan - the computer will reset, yes, but what else might be causing this ping? Before my EEPROM tuning, I ran 87 octane fine w/ no pinging for 30,000+ miles (now I have to run 93). Is the air filter & fuel filter clean/replaced? Have you tried running a tank of premium with some Techron injector cleaner thru the system?

Same problem here Dan - My 02 V10 has 27K miles and I also notice a pinging when the motor is slightly working - and I also don't have to be towing. Pinging is usually the sound you get from pre-detonation in the piston chamber. From what I know, it is caused by fuel not having a high enough octane level. Maybe it's bad gas or timing problems, but I though these new engines continuosly re-timed themselves...hmmm. but what do I know!!
