4x4 shift lever spring?

Alright gents I need some help. My 4x4 shift lever started rattling when I hit about 2000 rpm before I shift it got really irritating. So I crawled under there to see if I could do anything from the outside. I saw this loop on the transmission that looked to me like a spring was supposed to be there so I looked below the lever and sure enough Theres another hole on it as shown in the picture. So I’ve tried MANY different springs with different strengths lengths and Everything I’ve tried makes the noise different. Some better some worse but I really want it to be correct so it won’t make so much noise any more

. Could someone help me out if you know where to get an original or if I’m wrong about the situation? If it is a spring if I could get some input about how strong it is or any information would help. Thanks!

A spring is not stock in that position on a 4X4 shifter. The plastic bushing on the mounting bolt, in the shifter may be shot giving you your rattle.

Do you know where to get one other than going to a junkyard or something?

Ford dealer may be able to help. I don't know if they are obsolete. https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-4WD-4x4...IAAOSwGY5fG8Q3 Here is a complete unit. the 2 black bushings are what I'm talking about, but the OEM bushing is a 1 piece unit.

Probably a rookie question but could you describe where those go so I know where to look to see if they’re busted or worn?

OK In the link I posted the bushings go into the hole in the part in the left center of the picture, and the bolt goes threw the bushings to mount the assembly to the transmission.
