shift down linkage

I have an 84 351w 2bbl when I bought it the shift down linkage was disconected I reconected it and now it wont shift from first to second until about 30mph is the shift down linkage adjustable?

It might be bent. As far as I know that is the correct way to adjust it.
Someone else should be around soon.

Does it have a spring holding it up? If I remenber right mine had a spring holding it forward.

yes it does have a spring that pulls it fwd.
