Grinding

Hey guys, I have a 1963 F-100 stepside with a 292 Y-block, and a 3 on tree converted to floor. Almost everytime I shift into a gear, even from a stop, the gears will grind. What causes this? Thank you!

Do you have an inch to 1-1/2 inch free play in the clutch petal? if not, adjust it to so, might be the pilot bearing is sticky too, and too light weight of oil in the trans could cause a problem.
