Used my company F150 to launch my boat and now my differential is full of water. Is there a poorly designed vent tube? 2018 Lariat I had the fluid changed already.
Definitely going to get some water at that depth. Way further than Ford designed. Anything past center of hub and you risk water on any axle. Why did you have to go so far in?
Its not a very well built or engineered launch. It is what it is. Some guys have to go darn near up to the top of their wheel well. I usually launch it with the superduty and have no depth issues.
Defector - another thing to consider would be putting a new piece of longer tubing on your diff to relocate the breather higher up - then you don't have to worry about steep boat ramps. Should be super simple to swap with basic rubber tubing from a parts store.
Water in Differential 2020 F150. Unknown Ingress Path
My 2020 F150 with 59,300 miles is having rear end bearings replaced because of water intrusion. Dealership and Ford Customer Care says warranty will not cover because of water intrusion. I have never had this vehicle in water depth, only highway and county road driving. There has never been any repair on the rear end/axles. Dealer and Ford Customer Care cannot identify water intrusion path.
When the vehicle was delivered to the Dealer shop for repair, the Service Advisor told me the vehicle would be diagnosed and I would be contacted. No contact was made. When I arrived at Dealer, the rearend was stripped down and repair ongoing. At that time the Service Advisor said warranty would not cover repair because of water intrusion. I called 800 Customer Service and advised warranty would not cover. I have yet to receive Vehicle Concerbn Diagnosis Report.
Are there any accounts of these vehicles coming from the factory with contaminated lube in the differential.
None that I have seen posted here. And if was contaminated from the factory, you would have had problems way before the miles you have now. If there is no fluid leaking either from the axle seals, pinion seal or diff cover, then it got contaminated through the vent. The most common way this happens is when someone backs a boat trailer too far down the ramp, driving on a flooded street, or off road stream crossings/mud holes.
