I know this has been a thing in the past. I know Ive read about it as a warranty issue for a lot of guys. But I cant find the threads so Im opening a new one.
I checked my oil today... 2019 250 Lariat with 6.2...
Looked at the battery and theres corrosion following a little seem on the top corner of the battery. Very faint. And the clamp has some corrosion where it grabs over the edge of the battery.
Nothing is wet anywhere I can see. But at 14 months and 14,000 miles I wouldn't expect to see corrosion.
What do I think? Oh, I don't know. I'm growing weary of all this China virus stuff. One day seems the same as the last. I think about how I hate the cold so I enjoy every summer day. Kind of like saving up BTUs to face the cold days. But the change will come soon enough. I like spaghetti. Yeah, most Italian foods are on my list. I also like breakfast tacos. I mean, I could eat those all day long. But I guess that's enough for now.
Take it to the dealer. That's why you have a warranty. The battery is a warranty item and you have a bad one.
Thanks for stating the obvious. Actually I was hoping for someone who experienced the leaking battery issue to describe how it started for them. Since I noticed this at 6 pm on Friday while checking my oil before heading out for 10 days of vacation.
Might be interesting to know if it totally went south in a few days after starting to leak or if it took months.
Leaking battery is extremely common, usually drivers side battery, theory is it over charges and pushes acid out around the post. Never heard of a catastrophic failure, just rusting of the metal bracket. Under warranty they replace the battery new one does the same thing. Solution is a high quality AGM battery.
OK thanks. Im thinking Ill dump some water and baking soda over it and go and take it to them when I get back. What you say sounds plausible. Its pushing right out a fine seam that runs around the top of the battery.
Don’t clean it up to well. Dealer will say there is no problem. I had the driver side replaced and it’s got a small amount of leakage now. New truck will be here in Sept. Late 2017 truck.
Its not just you, try managing a fleet of new Fords with this issue. Only the Super Duty trucks with the cheap flooded batteries have this issue. I still don't understand why Ford went to AGM on all the other cheaper vehicles but can't give AGM as standard in the SuperDuty.
I spent the money on AGM batteries. Eventually the cables will fail. Warranty or not, I don’t want to deal with that. Take it in for a warranty, they’ll give you a new battery that will do the same thing.

Likewise, I have dumped the oem batteries as one of my first mods. Surprisingly was able to sell the batteries out of my 20 on CL for 100.00 which was better than the core fee and kinda offset the 590.00 I spent on the Northstar AGM's.
Theres a long list of these little things.
This is like the steering stabilizer. I went for a King with less than 10,000 miles to get rid of bump steer... without ever experiencing death wobble. Shocks were to be next...
I think Ill let them put new batteries in until warranties wear out. As long as they replace it as soon as theres evidence. Should cost them a bunch even with their economies of scale. The factory battery lasted 14 months. I have 10 years and 100,000 of warranty. Whats that? maybe 7 replacements?

I think you got the right idea and will be fine for your trip. When you get back you can decide if you want to invest in AGM so that it doesn't happen again, or get the dealer replacements and maybe revisit it again down the road. Enjoy your vacation.
