Front Leaf Spring Swap
Ive been doing a little research on spring swaps and I felt like I could use just a little more help than what I can find on my own. Here is my situation:
1999 F250 with front spring code T, v10 5sp reg. cab. Awhile back I added a full replacement front bumper, that, according to the manufacturer, weights in the neighborhood of 260 lbs. I am now having issues with my front tires rubbing and hitting the running boards. I assume the 20 year old 200K mile leaf springs are just so worn that the little extra weight is making the front sag just enough.
At first I thought about a leveling kit to get around this issue but I feel like Im just putting a bandaid on the situation and not really addressing the issue, plus being an early 99 its proving to be a bit of a PITA to find a decent kit.
Now my question...with the extra weight of the grill guard does it make sense to go with a little heavier spring, or is it not worth it?
From what I can find the stock T code springs on my truck are rated at 4400 lbs. A set of U code springs are rated at 4800, or V codes rated at 5200.
This thing already rides like ****, but its pretty "rolly" when driving. I dont want to make the ride any worse than it already is with heavier rate springs, but im wondering if I need to go with a bit heavier spring because of the added wieght. I kind of wonder if stock replacement T springs would get my height back since mine are worn Im sure, but maybe the U codes would help with the body roll and I wouldnt notice much of a difference in ride since I have the heavier grill guard on.
Truck has a VERY heavy duty homemade flatbed with loaded toolboxes that I assume also contributes to the body roll.
So, what would you guys suggest for little to no degradation in ride control, but to get my height back in the front. I feel like stock U codes are the way to go? I feel like Vs will ride rough?
Thanks for any insight!!
