I weighed my truck on a CAT scale and adjusted tire pressure as per tire manufacturers recommendation
I run Continentals MPT81's so I had to convert Bar's to Psi and Tons to Lbs

Front 5540 - 70Psi
Rear 4500 - 60Psi

Ford wanted lower tire pressures on the Explorer to give it a better ride.
I look at it this way... You can thank the dumb@ss public for not checking tire pressure on a regular basis.... Had a 98 Explorer and not one time had an issue. Kept tire pressure between 32 and 35 PSI.

It seems to be 50 psi on mine, i normally run 53 all the way around while not towing and it stays off. If it hits 50 I get the light. 2020 250 w/HDTT

There may also be a differential alarm. Say if the rear left is at 80 and the rear right goes to 65 it will alarm. My prior truck worked that way. I haven't test it out in the Ford.

I believe the typical TPMS is set up to alarm with a 20% drop from the target. So it your door sticker says 65/80, it would alarm at 52/64.

But it wasn't the public's fault. It was Ford's fault. The public WAS checking their tire pressures and keeping them at Ford's recommended pressure of 26psi. Why was it never a problem until the late '90's Explorer came along? People just didn't wake up one day in unison and say "you know what...I'm gonna stop checking my tire pressure today!"

You didn't have an issue because you kept your pressures within the tires spec.

After a chalk test with stock michelins, 55 front and 50 rear had the best results (tread wear and comfy ride) unloaded. Im running the same for my nitto ridge grapplers at 55/50 unloaded.

Did some digging and I stand corrected. Thank you, Sir.

Did the chalk test on mine, upgraded to 35x12.5x20r Nitto Trail Grapplers on 2020 F350 w/ 2" leveling kit. Front was 50 PSI, rears were ~30PSI unloaded. Bit lower on the rear than I'm comfortable with, not sure if being that low will cause unnecessary side wall flex/wear? Dealer put them back to stock 60/80 when they re balanced them (Kept having the tire weights fall off after they put the new tires/wheels on). So I may do 55/55 - I did just finish installing a Viair Ultra Duty 200 PSI compressor in the bed tool box, so easier to adjust out and about.

After a few days, 50/45 cold is comfortable to me. I'll chalk test again soon to see if too under inflated (hot) but I highly doubt it. Think I'll stay with 50/45 with my setup.

Can someone please point me to info on this chalk test? By the name, I'm guessing you chalk the treads and use that to measure contact patch? Are there guidelines on the proper measurements?
