Hey man, I can tell you know a lot about them. I posted more picts in a thread earlier, I lost the email with this one. But nevertheless the truck was painted I think in the 70's he said and rechromed the bumpers then. The driver door was replaced after someone bumped him in the side. As far as the interior screw holes, everything seems ok, I will look later. He sent new cardboard kick panels and trim with the truck. He had a lot of new parts to go with the purchase but was too old to get started he said. I have the rebuilt 272 in the shop and tranny as well. Basically he could spend the money getting things ready, but couldnt do any labor on it for years. It sat under his carport for years and years. He said it was worth $6k to him and I couldnt resist. I plan to patina it and keep it orig as he suggested. I have stacks of papers/receipts and purchases, original title and orig keys. I will find the old picture he gave me and post it for ya tonight. I am really interested to know about the motor and tranny and if they really are orig.

I'm curious what you mean by "patina it"? It already has "patina" natural from age, as the name suggests*. Anything you would do to it, short of washing the dirt off, is destructive to the natural look and patina.

*Patina is a thin layer that variously forms on the surface of copper, brass, bronze and similar metals, or certain stones, and wooden furniture, or any similar acquired change of a surface through age and exposure.

I see. I was under the impression patina meant keeping by covering it with a clear coat to prevent rust and further paint falling off. Im guilty of finding a steal and not knowing much about them. lol

Seems you've got quite a following now! Like everyone says, an original '56 big window is a reallllllly rare find! Don't let that truck go! Can't wait to see more threads from you and especially more pictures (hint hint)!!!

The patina the truck has right now looks true and real,

If you spray a coat of clear coat it makes it look cheap and fake. That is my main issue with people finding rusty things and trying to "preserve" them, just drive it like it is,

I'm not a fan at all of the "patina " look .
If it was my truck it would get a proper paint job , not a half arsed coat of clear .
If you really want to preserve the truck , a decent paint job will help look after the metalwork .

Appreciate yalls opinions. I plan to drive it like it is since it’s only original looking once. Maybe paint it one day. Thx

you've got a great old truck with a ton of character. Spraying clear coat over it won’t really do anything besides add paint to a surface that will reject it. Sounds like you tracked down a really well documented and cared for truck. It’s a great starting point for whatever you want out of it!

Travis, real nice truck. I too believe you should not put a clear coat on it.

Where do you live? If you live in a dry climate and/or have a dry garage and you don't drive it in the rain it should survive, in my opinion, without too much more rusting. I wouldn't clear coat it. If you plan on driving it as a daily driver then maybe you should paint it.

Some guys here have shines up the original paint on their trucks. Bill, Halemail, rubs something on his 52 to make it shine a bit. Joe, Harrier, used something to get surface rust off his 55 F250. Maybe they'll show us some pics and tell us what they use.

BTW is your name Travis or Logan?

Response to Abe

Yeah call me Logan but Travis is a real name. I appreciate your response and kindness. I’ve noticed some on this site like to just critique others rather than support and be helpful. Not totally sure what I want to do. I like the patina if it could last without flaking more or harming it more in the sun. It will be covered up and locked up but still don’t want to harm it. Whatever I do won’t be “half arsed” as was suggested, but I will investigate and find out what will support the longevity of the this piece of art. I’m not after cheap looks, I’m after restoring. Yet at the same time I don’t have cash overflowing and the means to take off the cab and start with the frame. Maybe one day. For now Abe, I will get it running and driving and put as much as I can into it.

I just want to add, I totally understand eventually wanting a top shelf restored truck, heck I have one. I also have a few others unrestored and to be honest, they get more comments and likes than my really nice truck. I also enjoy the not restored trucks a lot more as you don’t have to be as careful around them. Enjoy the truck anyway you decide to go. It’s a really nice start to the journey.
