Bought new 2015 F350 6.7 now with 70K. No problems till this year and now getting a P259F turbo overboost CEL and limp mode while towing. Normally happens when first starting out after warm up but not always.I’ve done a LOT of searching on this but all the posts on various forums end in NOTHING, no solution. Replacing turbos, reflash, etc. I did the reflash but that did not solve the problem. If I have it, someone else has it and has solved it. What did you do?
Do you by chance drive with the exhaust brake turned on at all times?
I’ve had it happen both using it and not using it. It mostly happens towing my 5th wheel (16K) when just starting out. Once things get good and warm down the road I don’t see the issue. I let it warm up before driving it but that doesn’t seem to help. Funny thing is I never had this till this year and now it happens 2 or 3 times on a 2 week trip out.
Another symptom I sometimes get before it goes to limp mode is a whooshing sound after letting off the accelerator. I’ve driven diesels since the 80’s and normally get that sound while stuck or moving heavy loads at slow speeds. This comes from very little acceleration and then letting off. Like the turbo vanes are not moving fast enough or too much. This sound doesn’t always happen though, just sometimes.
I would leave the brake off...it is known to cause an overboost condition when used all the time. Only use the brake when needed. Might want to have the turbo and the vanes checked to see if a problem is with them.

Yeah I don’t use the brake anymore since these issues popped up. I took it to the dealership today, against my better judgement. I have to start somewhere but I don’t have a lot of hope they’ll solve the issue. Just take my money.

They said the turbo needed replaced. I took it to another dealer and traded it on a 2020 (only because the first dealer didn’t have what I wanted). I wasn’t going to spend 6K with no guarantee it would fix the issue. Smart? Maybe not. I looked into aftermarket turbos but I didn’t really want to go that route. I still have doubts whether a turbo replacement would have fixed it. I had already been drooling over the new 10 speeds so I knew a new truck was coming. This just accelerated the decision.
