Hello all, I was wondering if anyone knows whether the AAT sensor is required for proper operation of the engine and engine cooling system or not? I have a 2015 5.0 swapped into my 59 F100, everything seems to work fine with the exception of how hot the engine gets before the cooling fans kick on. The engine coolant temperature will get to 220` and then the low speed fan control will kick on and the engine will cool to 214` and the fans shut off. It's not boiling over or anything, that just seems like a high temperature to get to before it decides to cool. My setup has a lightened wiring and computer from the donor truck and hasn't reall had any trouble with anything else.
My normal pickup is a 14 with the 5.0, I checked that and the fan seems to kick on on high at 214`. I didn't watch to see at what temp that shut off though.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
I don't believe the ambient air temperature sensor is involved in engine function at all. I don't believe it would do anything but complicate how the engine is cooled.
Beyond that, those temps do not sound outrageous, but there are other people on the forum more well versed than I.
Thanks for the reply, I didn't think it should matter not having that sensor. 220° is hotter than I'm used to things running but as long as it's not blowing the coolant out I guess it's okay.
The AAT has no effect on the cooling fan. These trucks since 2011 were designed to run 205-215 normally and the transmission at 195-205 normally. You are in range and I see no issues.
The AAT data is used as part of the calculation of the density of the air entering the engine. Not having that data will change the air/fuel ratio, but not by a lot.
Thanks for all the replies, since there are only 2 wires that go to that sensor would I be able to wire in a sensor from an older model Ford? I have a few older Fords laying around I could grab a sensor and pigtail from.
