Had axle housing in bed today. Road fine...except one left turn had a slight hump to it, axle rolled over 180 degrees and yoke punched a hole in my wheel well. Sucks.
Hindsight I should've strapped the axle housing. Never had moving objects in my other trucks cause damage like this though.
The wheel wells are really weak I tore a hole through one of mine. I beat it back closed and put some redhand on it sanded it smooth and put a bedliner and its gone.
Mine was a week old when the first hole was punched in it from a piece of steel I set in there by hand and it rolled over. Pretty disappointing but oh well. I'll beat it for a few years and then line it.
I was pretty disappointed and embarrassed that I allowed this to happen and that Ford would have such a weakness.
Thanks Lamoon.
Mine was a empty hard plastic 200 gallon water tank I use at the deer lease to haul water in. It slid across the bed and the corner punched right through it.
Every time I walk on the tailgate I can hear it creak and feel it flex, it doesn't inspire confidence. I've also noticed that you can push under the Ford emblem and the outer skin will push in.
A good plastic drop in liner offers the best protection for trucks that see hard use. I have seen the sprayed on liners get scraped off many times when using a fork lift to push pallets to the front of the box. My employer has stopped getting any type of liner for their trucks and instead just puts a sheet of plywood or steel in the box.
My personal truck has a sprayed on liner because the dealership had it put on. It works fine for me as l am some what careful with it.
