Exclamation ZF5 Assembly issues

A shadetree mechanic had my transmission over 6 over months to figure out what was wrong with reverse. Trans was good, only needed a shift fork. I got it back from him so I could finish doing it myself. I've got most of everything back on. My problem is that when I put the shift rails with their forks on the synchronizer sleeves, the 1 shift rail that is by itself is longer than the 2 that are group together meaning that it will bottom out in the transfer case faster and possibly prevent the others from bottoming out. Why won't the rails sit even on the end? I can post pictures if anyone responds.
I joined this group solely for this purpose because I have final exams in 2 weeks and can't afford to take the test at home because it's so expensive and my sister would hate to drive 6 hours to take me to the testing site.

It sounds like maybe one of the slide rings is not in neutral. I don't know if you have a service manual, but I attached one to this post, maybe it will help you the rest of the way. It's been about ten years since I put mine back together, so my memory is a little rusty, but let us know if you have more questions.

After pushing the 2 grouped up synch rings as far as they can go and push the single one as far back as possible, this is the best it shows. One of the gears on the main shaft does have a little shake play in it, I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

This was how mine looked coming apart. Is the shift fork in the correct location on the rod? Do all the gears on either side of the forks spin freely, or are any engaged to the main shaft?

Praise the lord lol!! Shift fork is on the wrong way. It's holding the rail back

@EPNCSU2006 On front case, behind the throwout bearing retainer tube, the shim goes on top, then the oil baffle, then the race. Do you know which side the oil baffle is supposed to be turned?? Is the ridge side supposed to point to the sky or to the ground?? The ridge is in the 2nd pic

It looks like the step goes towards the front - see page 2 in the attached file. The small block version doesn't use the tube, and I don't remember exactly it's been so long, but I believe the pocket goes towards the front bearing to hold a small volume of oil against the bearing.
