I'm looking at a used posi unit that is up for sale. It's advertised as a "10.5" Sterling Limited Slip Carrier coming out of a 2005 Ford F350." I have to admit my ignorance with this differential. My plan is to put it into my non-posi 2001 F250 Super Duty 2X4. I would like to do some recon before purchasing. Your advice would be appreciated...Thanks.
The 2005 axle has a wider wheel mounting width then an 01, the axle will bolt in and you will need to swap over your abs sensor but your wheels will stick out 1.5” on each side.

I'm only buying the differential carrier with posi...
Sorry missed the part about you swapping only the posi portion over. It’s a bolt in deal, just measure the back lash on your current ring gear and match it when you put the posi in. You’ll need a dial gauge with base and carrier shims and new carrier bearings to do the swap.

Cool, And thanks for the tips..I'm familiar with Dana 60, Chrysler 8-3/4", Ford 9" and 8.8", so I think I can do it, just wanted to make 100% sure before buying!!!!!
You may want to check it real close for worn internal parts. may be cheaper in the long run to just buy a new one.
I bought a used Aubrun Posi for my Chevy 12 bolt. Apparently is was well used as the posi cones had worn down and there was play in it. Blew it up after a couple years of use.
My '04 Chevy has a factory posi in it. At 125K miles I had to replace it as the spider gears had a lot of play in them from wear.
My '01 f250 has a factor posi with 4.30 gears and 135K miles. I'm getting some play in the drive line now and will be looking into the rear end to see if I'm having the same issues of worn gears or parts.

The new clutches are super cheap. The new unit is $600.00 to $700.00...It will have to be inspected. If the carrier bores for the cross-shafts are worn, I will weld them and re-bore them. The shaft and the spiders are cheap also...
