Problems with hood emblems/reflectors

I'm putting my hood emblems on with the reflector/250 on it and I bought threading cutting nuts to screw onto the studs coming off the emblems. There were the old ones I took off but didn't save them because I planned on getting new ones. With these new ones, I'm having a hard time screwing them on. I bought various sizes so I was able to try different ones. It almost appears to look like the threads on the studs from the emblem has been rounded off. Any ideas on this one? I'm not sure what to do and with the cost a new set-up, ...its very pricey. Thanks.

The nuts are what cut the threads into the studs. Looks like they've been worn by repeated use and somewhat crossthreaded.

You could try your luck with some used emblems with less worn studs, but the studs are the weak link with these pot metal emblems.

The emblems are reproduced and can be bought new from Dennis Carpenter and others. https://www.dennis-carpenter.com/en/...plate-ford-250

I have the same issue with my 67. Wondering if anyone has tried to cut threads onto the stud with a die to use a regular nut on there.
It certainly should be soft enough to easily thread. Then maybe us a plastic nut so you don't strip the threads.

Not sure what they're called, but what about retaining washers?? T he things that are spring steel and have edges that grip the stud when they are pushed on.

I've cut threads on similar pot metal pieces, sometimes it works, other times the stuff is too soft and the threads ball up and you end up breaking the stud off with the die stuck to it. Or it crumbles away like what is shown above.

You are thinking of push nuts, may work if there is enough round stud left, good luck getting them off in the future.
