Try adjusting the lower part of the hinge where it bolts to the inner fender. if you don't have enough adjustment, you can egg out the holes a little.

it is my belief that no hood will ever sit flush with the cowl once it 1) gets old or 2) is swapped. Honestly you can egg the holes out and will probably have to if you are using old hinges, but if you want it to work smoothly and line up right you will have to buy new hinges. Next time your hood is up look at the hinges, they have all these rivets and several pivot points, over time they just get worn out and so the normal adjustment in the holes isn't enough to make it flush. I can't remember how much they are but not super expensive. If yours are still working smoothly and the spring holds the hood weight, I'd egg em out with a little die grinder. Also helps to have a helper. That was a stupid sentence.

My 74 had 2 adjustments. First I loosened the Hood Hinges rear bolt very loose, and the front bolt just slight. I pushed up on the front side of the hood, making the rear of the hood go down. I tightened that down and it still was not quite enough. Then I loosened the inner fender at the firewall and pushed it down. Not perfect, but I do not think I will get an invitation to Show at the Amelia Island Concurs anyway. Good Luck.

I answered this question before...there is a trick.

With the bolts on the hinge to fender loose, push up on the hood to rotate the front of the hinge mount up, and the rear of the hinge down, then tighten. Spray and work in a Teflon lubricant so that the hinge points are very loose. This will allow the hinge to "relax" when it is in the lowered position.

Also make sure the upper mounts to the hood are in the right place so there is no binding. Any hood should sit flush to the cowl.

i had pretty good luck loosening the bolts just enough that they dont move unless you push on it, that way i could shut the hood carefully pull up on it or push down on it and carefully open the hood just enough to tighten the bolts back.

my other truck the hood sits down too far and now ive finally figured out that my inner fender is down too far! im gonna have to pull the front end soon anyhow because im gonna swap engines and put my brand new grille shell on.
