looking to buy a 390 fe long block anyone know where to look, I have contacted jasper, eastwood ,JTC, and a few other with no luck, anyone got any ideas. my block is cracked so need replacement
The rebuilders will kill you on the core charge if yours isn't any good. I would look for a good rebuildable core somewhere in driving distance and have a local machine shop rebuild it. Don't know exactly where you are down there but these guys show that they have 2 but they don't say how much they want for them. B & S Auto Salvage | Wildwood, FL

thanks for the info, i'm just down the road from wildwood. i'll give them a buzz tomorrow the old FE engine are getting very hard to find
I picked up a 390 long block from S&J Engines in Tacoma, WA. I did pay a core charge of $500, but even with that I got a great deal on the block with a 7 year warranty.

If your engine is a 390 you could just go for a 360 core engine and have the machine shop use your crank to build it as a 390. 360's are way more plentiful than 390's and a lot cheaper to buy as cores and the only basic difference is the crank. That same yard I posted shows several 360's along with those 2 390's. Core engine prices are all over the place depending on who has it but the price of a running core engine should not be over $500 unless it is usable as is and doesn't need overhauled. A local yard I do business with just sold a 390 core, not running for $100.
I also went with an FE 390 long block from S&J. I didn't get a core charge as I kept the 352. The warranty is a good one if installed by a professional shop. DIY install and it ain't so great. But after 3rd year of running no issues with the long block. Tiny oil drip from the right rear head, but, my bad sealing job on the intake manifold gasket.
thanks everyone, I will ck into these. I was told all FE engine are a 352 block then its all about what crank is installed except the 460 which is totally different.....
The FE blocks are essentially the same the differences are in the bore and stroke. The 360 shares the same bore diameter, "4.05" as the 390 so simply changing the crank and rods is all it takes to make a 360 into a 390.
That's odd jasper didn't have one. They still list them on their site. I ain't saying they're real good but they do have a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty.
Perhaps you asked for a 1965 truck? If you want a 390 from a place like jasper you may have to ask for a 1968 or newer truck because they will likely match the engine with the year it was available from factory.

jasper wanted to rebuilt my block for $4000.plus shipping both ways,( Fla to Ind. and back to Fla.) that's what the girl I talked to said....
I'd search around for a reputable machine shop that builds FEs. If they build them, chances are that they have one waiting to get worked and that means money to them. No core needed.
I found a 360 FE block, took heads, crank and block to machine shop, now I'm playing the waiting game to see what the out come is going to be..( hope its all good.) thanks to all for the help getting this truck back on the road and enjoying it
