New Rag Joint?

Hello, I have the original rag joint in my 73' F100 and I am not sure if it needs replaced. When I turn my wheel the metal post makes contact with the metal cut out on the joint. Is that normal for that to happen? I'm trying to take all the slack out of the steering and this seems to be where part of it is.

No if it makes contact its destroyed. It should not hit at all.
