I used this chassis paint from Harbor Freight in the spring of 2019 to paint the receiver hitch and a couple other spots on the drivetrain that had some surface rust. It matched the factory black perfectly and held up great last winter here in Maine. $5 a can. Just thought I would share my experience with it in case anyone else is OCD about rust on their truck.

How did you address/prep the surface rust before you painted? I'm inferring that you just painted over it without the rust coming back to the surface and bubbling/blistering.
You mentioned factory black paint... surprising to me Ford didn't bother to put a light coat of paint on many of the driveline parts that are now conspicuously rusted.
HF has carried many things that worked out well, Evapo-Rust and SuperLube to name a few...

I used and all purpose cleaner/degreaser (Spray Nine or Greased Lightning, one of those) and a green pad to clean the surface. Then washed it off with some water and let it dry. Didn’t use any primer and it adhered just fine.
The only things under my truck that aren’t painted are the exhaust (obviously) and the driveshaft.
