PS bolt sheared off

Not sure how this happened, but the top bolt that mounts the PS pump to the cast bracket sheared off while driving. Anyone have part # for this bolt? I'm thinking my best bet may be junk yard with new bracket and pump in case I can't successfully extract this one.

First you want to pull the bracket off and see if you can remove the bolt, it might have a stub there that you can get ahold of. I'd just go get one at ACE to match the one that broke.

I would take the same COA (course of action) that Mark suggested.

The bolt threads into the power steering pump itself, not the bracket. The bolt just passes through the bracket.

I'd leave the bracket alone. That cast bracket has been discontinued for years. Not worth breaking it fooling with it on a fishing expedition.

The missing half of that bolt is threaded into the pump. The pump should come out to retrieve the remainder of the bolt. The bracket need not be removed for the pump to come out.

- Remove the hot side IC pipe and air inlet snorkel to get it out of the way
- Remove the return hose
- Drain the pump
- Remove the pump pulley (special tools for removing and reinstalling this pulley might be available for rent at local Autozone)
- Disconnect the high pressure and return lines (special tool for disconnecting high pressure return line are cheap enough to buy, if not already on hand)
- Disconnect cooler return line
- Unbolt the remaining two bolts holding the pump on the bracket, and back pump away from bracket the distance of the broken stud that passes through bracket.

Torque spec for those bolts is 60 ft lbs.

Darn, I already picked up 3 bolts at a junk yard Friday afternoon. While there and dismantling the assembly, I've come to realize what @Y2KW57 has said. The bracket is not threaded so I passed on it. I did use those specific instructions to start the tear down yesterday though and got perfect access to the pump without removing the bracket. With a better visual, only 1 bolt is holding my pump to the bracket. I'll definitely send reps. I've replaced the HP line before on my other 7.3L and did take this one off as well with a 18mm wrench. Do some need a special tool?

My local box store parts store had already loaned out the pulley puller for the PS pump and it was time to head to the lake before I could get further into the extraction. The Ex has 298k mi and I'm pretty sure this is an OEM pump. Should I go ahead and replace it while I have it out? I don't want to chance a box store reman with all the horror stories I see of doing the job 2-3 times before getting a good one. I can go new or reman Motorcraft. Thoughts?
