In trying to eliminate the squealing coming from the 2 belts at the alternator I discovered that there is a bolt missing that attaches the adjustment bracket to the engine block (300-6) down by the main pulley/crank. The adjustment bolt seems to fit there so I assumed the missing bolt is the same size. However, that bolt, while fitting in the slot of the adjustment bracket does not fit through the hole at the bottom of that bracket. I could enlarge that hole to accept a new bolt (same as the adjustment bolt) but I wonder if that would work. I have no reference for what that bolt looks like or if it like a threaded pin/post or what. Any help is appreciated.
The truck is 1980 with a newer (carbureter) motor, no smog pump. The adjustment bolt in the picture fits into the block but not through the hole in the bracket. I think I'll just enlarge the hole and get a new 3/8'' bolt w/shoulder and try that.
