a/c condenser install
It is a cargo van (work van). The guy I bought it from had a landscaping business and used it for hauling shrubs and hand tools. A friend of his was a used car dealer and got it for him. It was a southern vehicle and he only used it for his business so it was never driven in the winter until I got it. A real blessing, I live in Pennsylvania. Most of the older vehicles don't last that long in the clean condition it was in.
I think it's called a super E 150. It has an extended bed, heavier chassis. I pay more for a registration every year because it's rated at a higher load capacity.
The 1983 deicing switch your diagram shows is interesting. I'll have to look at the evaporator compartment in the engine compartment. Now I know what to look for. I'll let you know what I find. That is about the same place I told you about the "odd part" going from the outside into the inside of the compartment.
I also notice the expansion valve is located on the outside of the evaporator assembly compartment. Like I said, mine is up at the top alongside the passenger fender next to the battery.
You are exactly right about the condenser on Rock Auto showing only one now, that's because I bought the other one-- Part # 4154. It must have been the last one they had.
Here it is: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...=1111363&jsn=1
As you can see, the tube is not shown, and it does show a dryer attached, so I thought I was getting a dryer with it. And I paid $97.77. The other one still listed, $76.99. I later looked at the price of a dryer, $7-8 dollars,,,,I didn't do my research!
And also I agree, the one they show does look like the tube comes out at a 45 degree angle, just what I need. The one I bought photo didn't show the tube. I emailed them last night about it and hope they get back to me tomorrow. I asked them to verify if it indeed comes out at a 45. It's getting harder to find parts at a decent price or at all for older vehicles like the E 150.
I bought the van about 8 years ago for $200.00. The guy just had no use for it anymore in his business and wanted to get rid of it. It has a 3 speed manual with overdrive on the floor. Something I haven't seen since my father had an F-150 back in 1972.
So, only paying $200 for the van and the under carriage, no rust (brake lines, gas lines) so clean, the mechanic I took it to for inspection was even impressed how clean it was. I had the engine rebuilt and transmission rebuilt, new clutch etc.
So for only about $3200 I have a basically new van, very dependable.
