I bought a f100 about a year ago and ive been fixing it up. A couple a weeks ago i tore into the engine(302) and found several bad pistons. So ive been tossing around what route to go wether i should find another block preferably a 351 roller block and swap that in. But the more i look at the block i have the more i wander if its the original motor. It has drilled and tapped holes for a roller lifter spider(but it had a flat tappet cam) it has the knock sensor hole drilled and tapped. This is a 1970 truck so those things make me think its a newer motor. Did 70s 302s have all that. How can i tell. It also had a E7AE-AA crankshaft in it. From what I've read that doesnt appear to be 70s. But once again I dont know much about IDing these motors. Can anyone tell me what to look for? As you can tell the casting numbers arent that clear. The one pic of the front where the distributor mounts is on here cause I've read theres suppose to be a number up there but i cant find one. Thanks

No that is not an original motor, a block serial number F-anything means it was cast in the '90s and E-anything is from the '80's.
Definitely a roller block from the 90's. The casting would be F1SE if it were clear. The numbers on the flat at the rear is the date code. I can't make it out, but looks like a 91 block
I think the numbers on the back flat spot are MNB11153. Not 100% on that though. Its not to big of a suprise cause it had a edelbrock intake and carb and double roller timing chain so I knew it had been touched a little. With 110000 miles on the truck made it even more possible.

The number from the previous post is the one on top. If thats the one you are talking about. The one on the bottom by the F**E code isnt hardly possible to figure out what its supposed to be.

I'm talking about the code on the bottom flat at the rear. It's a number/letter/number(s) combination. First number is the year of the decade it was cast. The letter is the month, starting with "A" for January, through "M" for December (the letter "I" was skipped) The last number or numbers is the day of the month it was cast. The first number looks like a "1" so that means it's a 91 block as the casting F1SE is a 90's part . "C" was used for the 60's decade, "D" for the 70's, "E" for the 80's and "F" for the 90's. The numbers on the flat on top would be the last part f the VIN for the vehicle it was installed in
