MSRP and invoice
Why in the world would you pay for the whole thing in cash when free money is available. Get a 0% APR loan for 24 or 36 months.
Not to mention the fact that the dealer gets a kick-back from the financing agency for writing the loan. Maybe that would be an additional bargaining point.
Put the ca$h in a savings account and collect some interest, and pay the loan off from that account.
Plus, you'll have the liquidity available in case of an emergency.
Just curious......
Go to as many dealers as you can...tell them you will order this NEW truck and pay cash.
Once you have the order sheet, it's a snap for ANY dealer to get it in their computer.
1.Got to a dealer (we'll call him dealer #1)
2. Tell the dealer that you are ordiering it TOMORROW, from the dealer that gives the most aggressive price. Tell dealer 1 that you have a dealer that has offered you $200 over invoice. Say I'll order it from YOU NOW, if you beat that by $400 (or any other gap you deem appropriate).
IF dealer 1 bites, say, sounds good, I'll be back in an hour to buy it.
3. GO to dealer 2, tell im you got this deal from a previous delaer "I was just at" (that would be the deal just offered from dealer #1). I'll order it from YOU, instead, if you can beat their deal.
4. Go to dealer #3. Repeat step 2
Repeat until the deal is to your liking.
Get the drift?
Hell these dealers screw with us enough. Now, it's your turn....
(P.S. Still, not a penny over invoice)

I used to do this myself. HOWEVER, car dealers are in the business to make money. They don't build all these fancy dealerships by giving their product away. They also know all the tricks and have heard all the stories. The fact is that if you walk out the door, they know there are ten more people waiting behind you. I mean, just look at all the super dutys on the road. It is obvious they don't have a short supply of customers. I have found it best to arm yourself with the Kelly Blue Book price list.....it is just about as accurate as the others, decide on what you want to pay, and hold hard to that. Shooting BS to the sales person is something he/she has heard a thousand times before....so it is hard to BS a BS'er. The best price is the price that the buyer is comfortable with. NOBODY ever screws the car salesman. You may think you do, but the fact of the matter is you won't get the deal if they are getting screwed.

Maybe......maybe not.
Still, the dealer gets measured by volume....# of units sold.
If his SD sales are flying high, and he can't move anything else, a sale is a sale.
I agree with you....fancy dealership means overhead (for the dealer). The dealers overhead is not the buyers problem.
Your point on the financing is well taken....I assume the dealers make nada on a 0% loan, as it is peddled to the dealer as an incentive. I wasn't thinking there, just typing
SInce he is ordring this truck, I assume the floor charge issue is mute.
Good discussion ,,,,,
