Talking Remote Start Add on

Hey folks....just a note to say I had a Python 881XP (New product)Security System/Remote start installed last week. I Love It! No problems what so ever. I dont really live a harsh climate, where remote starts are most benificial, but having the vehicle warm-up a few minutes without having to get in it and stare at the guages in the AM is a nicity. Again, no problems here with my 6.0 PSD.
Off to Cali in the AM (Ft Ord Area) for a job. Chat at ya later.

I just ordered a remote start system off of e-bay brand new for 60.00 bucks with a lifetime warranty. It starts, has a turbo cool down that will let the engine run after you remove the key for up to 5 mins (you set it) to cool the turbo. It will also (if you disire) start your truck every 4 hours, let it run a specified amount of time then shut it off and do it again every four hours.

I don't know if I have the skills to install it but I figure if I don't most stereo shops install them. I will pay them 100.00 bucks and still be ahead.

Holy Schnikies! 800 bones? man, i could buy myself some killer boots, batt pwr'd heated socks, and more to allow for starting that sucker by myself...

now 450 sounded a TAD more reasonable...

but wannabe's got my attention now! TIM, please followup on HOW this works out for ya... (60 bones and some install cost...Hmmmmm).

by the way TIM, did they also sell you a BRIDGE when you purchased this off EBAY?? heheheheheee... couldn't resist. good luck! :>

Dinobite,

Yes I got the bridge too but I only need the remote start system. Sooooo, if you know anyone interested in the bridge let me know.

I will let you know if the install is doable or if I have to have it done. The unit is advertised as new (they claimed to have over 100 of them) and has a "limited" lifetime warranty

Just do a search on e-bay under parts and accessories with keyword remote start. There are a ton of them.

Wow,
I'm not sure if I shoulda told everyone what I did to upgrade and protect my truck.

I'll keep all my add-ons and costs to myself from now on. Seems like some folks have their opinions on everything that has to do with every add on in the book and how much they payed for it from the "guy" down the street. Im also guilty of this and I will cease to "throw" numbers out there.

Hell, everything anyone says here, someone has done it better. I spent less...I spent more...I haven't had problems...mine has been in the shop a few times...I got a cousin....my mechanic said...I was told from a guy down the street...yada, yada, yada

Hope you didn't have to break the penny jar for that 60 bucks??? It'll cost you more in the future to have the "Limited Warranty" work done...and by whom?

If I need a financial manager, which I dont, I wont look here.

Oh, and yes, I did have a "few" more options installed. There is a lobor cost accosiated with each option and install.

I'm out....

BDU,

First off, congrats on your truck and upgrades and welcome to FTE. I too am a newbie here, but in my short time here and w/ my new truck (<1mo) have learned a myriad of stuff I never would've otherwise known.

Because there's such a 'wealth' of knowledge here, it seems humanistically natural and thus inevitable for others' in the 'know' to be so quick to point out a potentially better (and/or cheaper) mousetrap. I don't think its meant to be critical, but rather to be helpful -- not necessarily for YOU directly [ref. ex post facto w/ your purchase(s)], but for all those that view these posts.

I can't recall any specific shots at you for your decisions/purchases, rather normal reactions and thoughts... so please don't go running away all too huffy. Your presence here is just as important as the rest that visit as we in turn hope to learn from your experiences and knowledges. Please bear in mind that these message boards are drafted by REAL folks w/ REAL opinions. As you'll notice over time, its [generally] a great gathering of genuinely good people, and so each's individual humor and writing styles come with that.

Personally, I appreciate the diversity of opinion and mix of emotions seen at this site. I too am guilty of the very "tongue-in-cheek" humor that's often seen here. It real is 'all-good'.

Finally, after noting your signature descrip, you've clearly got QUITE a rig there. Bravo to you for having the pride and care to make it last a long time.

No hard feelings bud~ ... and... Stay a While... you'll enjoy...

***************

OKAY, now onto that F250wannabe Tim guy... C'mon... 60 bones on Ebay?? Shhheeeesh!! hahahahaa... j/k... I hope it works out for ya... tho i'm SUPER skeptical!!! (HOPE you enjoy that BRIDGE!!! ) -- and NO, I ain't taking if off yer handz!

I DID do a search on Ebay for "Remote Start Diesel", and came up w/ nothing. I've seen the remote start gizmos at Sam'sClub for like 50-ish bucks, but I think they're only for Gas/Auto Tranny configs, and a No-Name brand at that. Typically, we DO get what we pay for. Again, hope you fair kindly... but PLEASE post your results, be them favorable or not.

Since we're in the vane, vain, vein of 'jumping' on bigger, better, bargains !!!!!!! Don't need no stinkin digital - can even use the throw away 35mm cameras and when processed just have it put on CD.

(really, BDU - take the well said Dine info as good stuff )
As I'm sure you know, what we type may not come out as we meant! As the ex used to scream at me -
"It's not what you say, it's HOW you say it !"

Darn, hate to admit it, but another thing she was right on !!!

but anywho - hang around - no harm meant - and you'll find, just like any conversation, sometimes the late hours or the freedom of the keybaord allows us to go off on tangents that SEEM funny at the time... Or is that just me ?

BDU, that sounds about right to me. I just got a price from Best Buy for a clifford system installed. They quoted $700. It is a remote start and alarm. It will include the modules to roll up the windows and close the sun roof when it arms. I for one am interested in what other options you got on yours. I want to explore all the avenues before I buy one. I like the idea of being able to leave the truck run after you pull the key out to let the turbo cool. Also have heard of some systems that you can leave it running with the key out like if you want to run into the store or something. Any more info would be great.

After paying $38K for a truck and then $3K for lift, tires, wheels, shocks and intake kit........$800 is a drop in the bucket.

Duks,

Your right about cost comparisons....you defineitely get what you pay for now days. Additional battery operated, (not in the same circuit) siren, nice to have just in case someone does get under the hood and cut what they think might be the siren, Aux Hood switch (anti lift), db sensor module(window breakage), parking light flash (remote start indicator), turbo cool down (timed), valet/service bypass, this is a 2 way remote w/LCD screen, delay start module(glow plugs). I think 500 was the shelf price...+ tax...add- ons....wal la! 800 bones. Maybe in the spring I'll throw a cat back on....Dynaflow, Flowmaster, Borla?? who knows. I didn't think I'd tinker as much as I had....but my last truck was a bowtie and I didn't do any mods at all to it...so here I am. Later Duks....
