BDU33,

Sorry if I hit a nerve.

If you scroll up to my original post you will see that I never directed it to you or any one person. It was only a factual statement for anyone interestd.

I agree that you usally get what you pay for. To risk 60.00 is not a big deal. I could make out or I could loose 60.00.

The fact is after winning the auction on e-bay almost a week ago the seller does not respond to my e-mails for an address so I can send them a money order. So I guess I will be paying retail after all.

Egg on my face? Maybe. But you can't blame me for trying.

Here is a link to e-bays list of auctions for remote start systems if anyone in interested in it. The unit I was trying to get is a RS900 VI. If nothing else there are alot of units with various features to help one decide wich features they want.

Is this a remote start as well as a alarm system?

jdadamsjr,

Could you give a run down on the features of Ford's Gold remote start system? Does it have the cool down mode? None of the Ford dealers I have called know anything about them. Imagine that!

Thanks in advance.

The remote start and ability to crank up the AC and/or Heater is worth the remote start to me...
Basically it's just tied into the security system, door lock actuators, and running lights...
does the wait to start and remote start and remote shut down...

That's all the features I cared about and use...
I think the range is 600 ft with the supplied long range remotes?

I THINK these are some of the features I was told,
but never use them - don't even know HOW to use them if they're not automatic !
Emergency override,
Remote headlight activation,
Panic alarm,
Shock sensor,
Trunk/Hatch release,
Car finder,
Valet mode,
rear defroster activation,
illuiminated entry and exit...

- I agree. My wife insisted on the remote start because she wanted the cab warm when she entered it on cold mornings. (I spoiled her by installiing one on my old van.) It works great and she thinks it is well worth the $650 the dealer charged (including the security system).

Like jdadamsjr, It has a bunch of other features that I don't use (including one that lets the engine run with the key out for 5 min).

Incidentally, for a Tonneau cover, check out the velcro sealing "Lite-Rider." I like mine a lot better than the snap-on Truxedo.

I had a Viper remote start in my 6.0 and it is set up to start after a set 'time' of about 10 seconds. Sometimes the glow plug hasn't turned off by then and the truck just cranks but doesn't start. The remote start attempts a second time and the truck starts, but spews out quite a bit of smoke (unburned diesel?). I called the installer, evidently the new models can't go by the glow plug light like the 7.3 models since it is part of a data bus. The shop had to just use a timer. I am going to have them set it for a longer wait duration - I was just wondering what harm has been caused by the non-starts with the glow plug light still on.

I just had a viper put in mine. It uses the start wait light. When the wait light (glow plug light) goes out it then starts. Your installer is mistaken.

I am an impatient type and when I don't use my remote start, I crank my X just like I do the gas engines... have never had a problem with it starting right up...

My ford installed ford gold remote just has a timer of 5 or 10 seconds to allow the glow plugs to warm up and then it cranks...

Ever since the latest flash the engine cranks SLOWER, but that's not a function of the remote start, probably a function of the pilot injection no longer enabled...

the Viper is the same as the Clifford system. Both are made by a third party. It can be conected to the WTS light or set up on a timer. Timer is probably easier so that is what most installers go with. I am looking for one now that it is getting colder

My dog just died so I'm drinking beer! Good dog!!! I'll miss him!!!

Anyway, my fist thought to this post was not good, until I kept reading. You guys were really on him about something that he was proud of! I'm glad that you all responded to him the way you did! Can you tell that I'm feeling "emotional"??

BDU, if you're happy with waht you got, enjoy it! We can't take our money with us!!

Just my thoughts.

Cool Thoughts

Its funny, I never thought I'd get this much in response to my post. I appreciate all the replies. Seems like I, and we, might've answered all the ins and outs of remote starts for the new 6.0L PSD. Folks have their opinions and budgets that don't freely coincide with everyone elses when upgrading and adding on after market accessories, thats OK...I've gotten over it
Bells and whistles came with the truck..so why not add some more. You're exactly right LMDeisel, I cant take my money with me. I live for today and I will do it all again when I purchase my next rig. My next after market purchase will be a new exhaust/muffler. I will look through some old posts and check out what some other guys have done and how they like it...considering things like performance, price, and durability. I'll do my homework and will purchase what I feel is right for me with the budget I have to work with.
Again, thanks guys....and girls (if there's any here) for the responses and "other looks" for upgrading my PSD
