Interior work

All:

I have a 1986 XLT Lariat and I am considering removing the interior plastic panels below, sanding them and then repainting them the original Canyon Red. (I did the door panels last summer and they turned out nice.) My question is how much of a pain is it to get these out? I only want to do these two panels. Do I have to take all the interior plastic out - as if I might have to take three pieces off to get to the one panel that I want to work on? I hope that it is more simple than that.

If anyone has done this job let me know how it went for you. Any tips or things to look out for would be very appreciated. Thanks!

Do I have to take the entire interior apart to get to these two panels?

I'm not sure, I've never taken those pieces out. I do have a question though, how much paint did it take to do the door panels? I wanted to do mine in the original nutmeg tan color, but the local SEM dealer told me it was $75 for 4oz., so probably going to end up with black door panels. Either way, I was just curious.

Dagwood,

The threads on the forum were a great resource for me. I had two cans of SEM paint and was able to do the door panels and the arm rests. My Lariat has the metal looking trim on the panels and that seemed like a pain to remove so I used masking tape to cover it up. SEM spray paint was about $15-$17 per can if memory serves and I got it online. I did not think it was a bad price - at least I could live with it. I can't remember what the adhesion promoter cost. Either way I was committed to trying to make it look like it was when it rolled of the Virginia factory floor.

Here is what I bought.

Thanks, 2 cans it is. On Gary's site I found the listed SEM color for my interior, but I'm not spending $75 on 4oz just to have them match. I'll SEM spray paint them black when I get to that point. It'll be after I get mechanical stuff done on the truck first. I was just curious how much paint it took.
