I have a '98 EB 4x4 with no real performance mods - has Force II cat-back, and a K&N filter. I was at a stop light, 2 lanes merging about 1/8 mile in front of me. I pulled next to a tahoe, and he gunned it off of the line.
He was old so I didn't expect it, he got maybe a 1 second jump on me - his tahoe was dead even with me up to 50 mph. The tahoe was around the same year - I expected to crush the tahoe. Is that an expected result, or should I be getting more performance out of my expy?
At 50mph the lanes merged and it was my job to merge into the other lane so I backed down. I was about 5 ft ahead of him on the light, but had my head turned when the light changed, and he jumped it... Perhaps 1/2 to 3/4 of a second. I don't really have much experience with adding a supercharger, are there any other mods that will give me a decent hp gain? I'm going to add a velocity tube really soon.
Many factors, reaction time, engine size/tune, rear gearing, power braking, etc. If it were a '98 Tahoe, it probably had a 350 in it which is more powerful than even the 5.4L
I drove a 2004 Tahoe LT with 5.3L for a month (rental) before buying my 04 EB Expy with 5.4L. There is a night and day difference between the two speedwise. That Tahoe was really pretty quick and the engine was rev-happy. Would go to almost 6000 rpms before shifting.
It would leave an Expy - (which weighs 400 lbs more) behind....
That said, I bought the Expy because I liked it much better than the Tahoe in EVERYTHING ELSE... But that Tahoe would fly!
perhaps a supercharger is necessary... my thing is I don't really want to build a 5600 lb truck for speed - it feels powerful but it's not exactly a supra
