I am looking to order a 2020 f450 and a dealer told me yesterday that if I ordered it now there is no guarantee it would come before the cut off date.. He said the order could die and I would have to redo my order for a 2021. So yeah.. he said if another dealer told me it could be done they would be lieing to me. With all that is going on I am inclined to believe him. Normally I would think he's lieing to try sell me a truck off the lot. He is a fleet guy for the #1 volume dealer in my State.
I guess I can wait till September to try for a 21.

Did he tell you what the 2020 cut off date would be?
He did not know but said he guessed it was some time in August. He said September you most likely could place a order for a 2021. But Ford had not given any dates yet. He just didn't think if a order was placed today it would make it before the cutoff. Who knows!

Unless it has changed 7/10/20 is the last day for retail orders on a 2020.

The dealers have the information, so lack of his personal knowledge is just laziness and random guessing.
The only other thing to add is that the dealer you are ordering from will also affect the timeline. High volume dealers get more production slots and have a priority ranking system on each order to fill those slots.
