So I bought a 75 project truck with no keys and finally got around to replacing the door locks this past weekend. New key inserts and locks and unlocks, but the key can only be removed in the unlock position! In addition the lock/unlock plunger in the cab can only be actuated when the key is in the lock. The lock is from standard motor products and part number is DL-3. Has anyone had this trouble?
It has been a while, but i believe you have put the locks in wrong. There is a hole near the cap, that goes to the bottom. I believe the pawls, thing that attaches lock to rod, has a L and R on it. Check out these things are correct.

Thank you for the idea! I will give it another go after work tomorrow.
so even after a second look I'm still not having any luck. The lock only installs in the door one way and the swing arm is pointed toward the door hinges. Shouldn't I be able to manually swing the arm without the key in the lock? I'm planning to return unless someone can point out something dumb im not seeing.
