I have an 05 Eddie Bauer Excursion 6.0. This is my 2nd Excursion but my 1st Diesel.
I absolutely love this thing! I got it June 8th last year. And that’s why I’m posting this thread.
It had 136,000 miles on it. And now after a year of ownership and daily driving it I have 157,000 miles on it.
I only had 1 issue so far. The cold side charge pipe cracked so I replaced them both.
My mods so far have been Sinister Diesel blue spring mod, Egr delete, coolant filtration kit, No Limit cold air intake, BDS 6 inch lift, BFG KO2’S 35’s, full led interior lighting, and I just got a SCT Livewire Ts tuner with 5 star tunes.
Also I put in a new OEM oil cooler when the delete was done. I wasn’t having any issues at all with the old one but I wanted the new updated one and figured that would be the best time to do it. I also did the dummy plugs at the same time.
I change the oil every 5K miles with Shell Rotella T6 full synthetic 5W-40. And I use Archoil with every oil change and fill up.
Flushed the coolant and I’m using Motorcraft Gold.
I'm running the SCT canned street tune so far and it made a huge difference! I absolutely love this Excursion!!
Good that the Gold is working for you, but I would recommend ditching it. It can work with proper change intervals, but if it gets overheated, it can cause issues. It can also drop silicates out if combustion gas gets into the coolant system. I realize you are deleted, but I would still switch to an EC-1 rated ELC coolant.

Thanks for the response. Can you recommend a specific brand to go with?

Any EC-1 coolant should be fine. I would go with what is readily available to you. No sense ordering coolant online and then have to chase it down when you need more.
I know the 6.0’s have a bad reputation but so far mine has been nothing but good to me.
I know the Egr is the cause of most of the issues.
I plan on doing the ARP head studs in the future.
To be honest, I think the Ford Gold is more of an issue than the EGR system. Many times the failure mode is that the oil cooler plugs (coolant side) and starves coolant flow to the EGR cooler and then the EGR cooler fails.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I’ll flush it out and change it with something else.
while on the subject. What should my coolant and oil temps be reading? I have gauges set on my Livewire so I can monitor them now.
