2002 Ex Electrical Gremlins..
When I bought it it had a non-working cheap aftermarket stereo in it. The 2nd day I had it I had driven it, shut it off to chat with someone with the windows down, and when I started it back up I had no power to the windows for a few seconds then the power came back.. Weird. I then had it to the shop where I had them install a factory refurbished stereo with a updated built-in Bluetooth hookup (sweet) among other repairs. Driving it home from the shop my wife flipped her mirror down and when the vanity light came on I lost all power to the radio and power to the windows. Only for a few seconds then they all came back on... Weird. Since then, probably every 5th time I start it I'll have no power to the stereo or to the power windows. It lasts a few seconds to few minutes and then starts working again. I researched this problem on this forum and found to replace the 302 relay as well as check some fuses. I replaced the relay with a new one and inspected a half dozen recommended fuses and all was good but i replaced them all anyway since I had some lying around.
But since doing that I've realized some other strange issues that have started to occur. Originally when the power would cut out to the stereo and windows, when the power was restored the radio would be 100% operational along with the windows. Whereas now the clock will come on on the radio but no other functions on the stereo work and the windows don't work. Then after a few minutes or seconds more the stereo will again be fully functional and the windows will work again also. Why would the clock come back first then the stereo?
Stranger yet, is the (stupid and annoying) seat-belt dinger. When I first bought it the dinger alarm for the unfastened seat belt never worked, I assumed the prior owner had disabled it. But since the relay and fuse replacement the seat belt dinger ONLY WORKS when the radio and power windows AREN'T working. When the radio and power windows ARE working the seat-belt dinger doesn't.
Scenario: I hop in the ex, shut the door, and start it. I have no radio, no clock, and no power windows. Within seconds the seat-belt alarm begins dinging. It dings off and on as I sit in the driver seat with the belt unfastened. All of a sudden the clock is now illuminated on the stereo, but nothing else on the stereo works nor do the power windows, but the seat-belt dinger keeps dinging. All of a sudden sound starts playing out of the stereo. The power windows are also now working, but the seat-belt dinger has shut off despite my seat-belt still being unfastened...
Also the bottom cigarette lighter is not working.. The top powerpoint lighter above the pull-out cupholder works just fine...
I'd like to add that only 1 time, which I discussed above, has the stereo and power windows quit working while operating the vehicle. All the other times it has been immediately after startup. I'd also like to add that the Bluetooth in the stereo has quit working, and the guy is sending me a replacement. Could the stereo be a problem?
What the heck am I dealing with here? Multiple issues? Is the seat-belt alarm tied in with the delayed accessories relay? Any input would be great. Am looking at replacing the 30A Circuit breaker part number 14526-LA but can't find any online. Could this make a difference? Anyone have an aftermarket part number for that? Any input much appreciated.
You can get ForScan and turn off the seatbelt dinger!!! That might also help you diagnose, by running module checks and searching for DTC's.
