I’m wondering which clutch I should use for my truck I just picked up the new 300 straight six for my truck and the motor is from 1980 with a aluminum bell housing my truck has the 1966 factory 4spd in it and I measured the bell housing and my transmission and it will bolt to it and the shaft coming from the front of the transmission is long enough to work with the bell housing and motor the 1980 motor and my truck both had mechanical clutches so I guess my question is which clutch should I use the one from 1980 or the 1966 style clutch but I guess it may depend on fly wheel possibly not to sure?
The 1980 should have a diaphragm pressure plate and the 66 will have the 3 finger. You get better pedal feel with the diaphragm but also slightly lower holding power.

you are right the 80 is diaphragm which would be better for my truck as my truck won’t be pulling a trailer or hauling anything heavy it’s just gonna be a cruiser I was thinking about using the 66 style because I have a new one in box that I bought for my 67 f250 but rock auto says the 66 and 67 clutches are the same I’ll just have to order another for my 67 if I use the the 3 finger one
I ordered a 1983 351W clutch when i was installing the NP435 transmission. Its a diaphragm type pressure plate. However, it won't bolt up to my 1978 302 flywheel. Since the original pressure plate was fine, I re-used it and just installed the new disc, throwout bearing, and pilot bushing.
You may want to check before you order.......

I’ll just have to check if my 3 finger clutch will fit since I already have a new one
Which one fits, depends on your flywheel.
At least on this particular 302, the flywheel is drilled for the Borg and Beck (3 finger) flywheel, and not the diaphragm style.
Then again, it could just be this particular pressure plate.
I’m going through this right now and I’m changing from the three finder to the diagram style on my 300 six in my 1965 f100.
I got a new flywheel from NAPA with ring gear for $75 and the diaphragm clutch kit was $150.
Im working on rebuilding the Z-bar and the rest of the clutch linkage.
The reason I went with the diaphragm was from past experience back in 1985 when I put the last clutch in. I had to go through a stack of remanufactured pressure plates to get one that the fingers were all the same height after bolting the pressure plate to the flywheel.

Correct it appears the aftermarket supports both finger type (long/b&b) or diaphragm type for both the 1966 and 1980 applications. Which to use is a preference.
It sounds like the OP has a clutch for an earlier application, why not unbox that cover and try to hang it on the 1980 flywheel and let the world know if the mate?
Edit:
Quickly looking in some books, looks like late 60's trucks with 300-6 used an 11" clutch that is the Long type. The 80's 300-6 trucks could have either a 10" Long pattern or 11" with the Borg and Beck pattern. Again any of these are available today in a finger or diaphragm type replacement.
But again, in 40-55 years any mix and match could have occurred, so per my comment above, the only way to know if the clutch you have will work, is to try.
I tested the 66 style 3 finger clutch on the 1980 motor that has the diaphragm style the 66 clutch is a 11 inch clutch and the 1980 motor has a factory 10 inch clutch so it will not work and the bolt hole are off by half a inch so I guess I will go with the diaphragm style for my truck and I did the measuring on my 66 4spd transmission and it will work is there anything special or little I will need to change like linkage or something
