Old Camper Shell Collectability

I have this old camper shell that was on a 1964 Ranger/Sport since 1966-68
Plan was to restore it but how far out that would be in line to do I am considering letting it go. It would take major work as the wood panel inside is pretty much gone. This one had a cooler and intercom from inside of cab to shell.
ANyone else restored one or have one or even a large full size camper on a slick?

If this one was for sale there would be a bidding war.

This is my viewpoint:

Since I do not have woodworking skills, and would need to hire that out, I’d have to be able to buy it cheaply because of the money I’d need to spend. I could clean it, reseal it, wire it well enough. So, I’d prefer to buy an already restored one, or nearly so. Re-doing those, like so many things, is a labor of love, and it would be hard to get out of it all the money you put into it. The one Christmas linked to is about the nicest I’ve seen. Yours has the period correct look, and I hope you do restore it, or sell it to someone who will do it justice.

If you find just the right person that really wants it, and it is sized perfectly, by the way, I’d say you might get 500-700 for it as is. I can just envision about 2/3 the members here choking and spitting out their coffee/refreshing beverages at that statement, but I have been looking for a very nice condition one for sale for a long time, and they appear not to exist. And it looks beyond goofy to put a modern shell on an old truck, in my opinion. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

Talking Pros and Cons

Pros:
> correct for the era
> commonly seen then
> reflects period use and look
> some girls fine with it on date night (which maybe should concern you)...

The above cautionary photo example leads us to the Cons:
> Ugly as sin then (the camper, I mean)
> Even uglier now (the camper, I mean)
> Horrible odors of rot and decay (the camper, I mean)
> Good chance infested with black widow spiders (the camper, I mean)
> Pretty much mandatory to crudely paint on it, "Free candy!"

All in all, I'd say no. But... to each his own!

IMO, the smaller light weight shells ( level with top of cab and keep your tailgate ) are desirable

Love the '58, Christmas! That's a thing of beauty. I've been on the hunt for one of those for a while now...

If I had a truck to drive just might do that! 7 1966 Trucks and not a single one of them actually drive! All the wood in topper is toast but all there. Still have the intercom system they used but no clue if it works.
I would love to restore it but its about 7001 projects down the road . .
